Introducing: The Carter & Carter Detective Agency

You heard it here first: I’ve written another branching narrative, in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure novels, and this time it’s a mystery!

Louise and Megan Carter own and operate the Carter & Carter Detective Agency. They’re also sisters. Most of the time they work on affairs and insurance claims, but this story follows the sisters as they try to find missing person Penny Bean.

Book Cover: Carter & Carter Detective Agency, a branching narrative. Author Fleur Blüm. Image is a top down view of two women sitting at a cafe table, the table has a coffee, a camera, some photos, a phone and a croissant.

What’s a branching narrative, I hear you ask? It’s a story told with places where you, the reader, can make a decision about what actions to take and which path to follow.

This private detective mystery novel has seven endings–can you find Penny? What other, possibly disastrous endings, will you get to before you find Penny?

A lot of people my age, the elder Millenials and the younger Gen Xs will have fond memories of the Choose Your Own Adventure novel series, and having your fingers in the pages so you can go back and choose a different path if you make a wrong turn.

This book is my second branching narrative story, the first, Sophie’s Path, was a romance with fourteen endings. Writing a branching narrative is a difficult undertaking–I have to keep track of every pathway’s continuity and make sure there are no facts in path A that appear in path B without the Carter sisters having found it (among other things).

Carter & Carter Detective Agency is available in ebook and print format, and is available for pre-order now. It will be released 1 June 2025. I’d love for you to get to know the Carters, and maybe even save Penny.
