I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions. I’ve seen enough articles about how they don’t work, and I’ve seen how busy the gym is in January compared to other times of year to know resolutions are often abandoned. Instead, I like to write myself a list of goals that I can work towards in the year. Some of them I achieve, well most of them, but some I don’t because they turn out to be unaligned with where I am, or they’re not as important as I thought they were. Some goals I have dropped due to time and energy constraints, particularly if my health declines or other commitments increase.
With all that said, here is my list of goals for 2024.
- Publish Morgana, My Queen
- Finish and publish anthology story
- NaPoWriMo 2024 (April)
- Keep up the blog
- Craft projects, including crochet, painting, etc.
- Read 5 books
- Play music
- Travel/have a holiday
I thought about adding another writing goal, but I think I’ll leave that on the maybe list along with participlating in NaNoWriMo. If I do, it’s a bonus, and if I don’t then I’ll have published two things in 2024 anyway.
It’s not really a goal, but I hope that this year I’ll be able to do some more fun stuff. 2023 was challenging in a lot of ways, and one specific way meant that I didn’t get out as much as I would have liked, spending a lot of time at home due to health stuff. There has been some good progress on the health side, and it would be great if this year can be less stressful, and more playful than last year.
I haven’t had much energy for meeting new people, or going out to see live music, or other gigs, so doing a bit more of that would be excellent.
My goals don’t change much from year to year, they’re mostly focused on my creative stuff. I’ve had a couple of thoughts about other things I might do, some short courses that look interesting, and I’ll be starting a new job in a week or so, which will bring new learnings.
I hope the world doesn’t burn itself to cinders on 2024, I’ve been hiding from the news a lot lately. I hope we all have the resilience to weather the challenges sent our way, and the ability to find some joy in there as well.
