It feels super weird to write 2026. I feel old, and like the passage of time is going faster and faster. Each year I write a post about my goals for the upcoming year, you can read the break down of 2025’s goals and how I went with them on my recent post here.
The last year I have been working on not taking on projects/responsibilities so I don’t overburden myself, but I was not very successful at that. In 2025 I took on joint leadership of a village at Confest, this was something that hadn’t been on my list for the year, and meant that I needed to push out one other goal. I also took a position on the leadership committee for the Life Models’ Society in August, which also had not been on the list.
I’m hope to keep my creative projects ticking along, the blog has not been as active as I might have wanted, but I’m not still working on my writing projects, and my music practice even if I’m not posting about it.
Shifts in what’s important over time are natural; there is no doubt that was I was focussed on ten years ago has changed in some ways, and has remained the same in other ways. With that in mind, my goals for 2026 are as below:
- Publish one book
- Continue the blog
- Attend Confest in Autumn and Spring
- Enjoy crafting (maybe improve my knitting skills)
- Work on physical exercise
- Play music
- Read 5 books
- Travel
A few of these goals are already in progress, so I have high hopes that I’ll be able to achieve them. Unfortunately, exercise has been an area this year that has suffered a bit. I would like to get better cardio fitness but I hate cardio, and my ankle tends to hurt if I do too much.
I’ve put travel back on the list, it was not on the 2025 goal list as my work stuff has been intense. 2026 doesn’t feel like it will be much less intense in my day job, but I am prioritising taking some of my annual leave (of which I now have quite a lot). I’m considering heading over to Europe for a bit, possibly in late May, but the exact plans are to be confirmed.
I’m glad to have a solid network of friends around me, and support for my various activities. It seems like I’m a person who likes to keep busy, so perhaps I need to work on being better at resting or saying no to things, that might need to be a 2027 thing, 2026 seems to be pretty full.
What are your goals for 2026? I hope the world doesn’t tear itself apart to badly but if it does I’ll still be here in my corner trying to do what I can to make it a better place.
