Local Celeb Sighting

I slid open the door, read the sign:
Door is closed to keep it pigeon out
stepped in and turned to close it again
when the pigeon, of sign fame
hurried forward
How aggressive this bird must be
to have its own notice
Another renowned pigeon, dubbed Frank
is a fixture at the Northcote Plaza
a larger, but less illustrious, shopping
centre one suburb over

The Plaz, as it is affectionately known
has two distinct Coles supermarkets
Perhaps the only shopping centre with
duplicate vendors, its notoriety precedes it
Good Coles and Shit Coles, colloquially
Arguments among locals about
which is which are common, I prefer
the bigger of the two. Frank, the pigeon
has one leg, and is often spotted in one of
the two Coles, photographs of him regularly
feature on The Plaz Facebook group

The pigeon for whom the sign was written
is not Frank. I don’t know its name yet
perhaps it hasn’t been given one
I doubt this new bird will have the
cult following or charm of its cosmopolitan
cousin. Time will tell who better remembered.
