Write Poetry in April

The days are getting shorter again, and we’re about to change the clocks so that means it’s time to get into gear to write some poetry.

The last few years I’ve participated in NaPoWriMo (National/Global Poetry Writing Month). An initiative run by Maureen Thorson, to coincide with National Poetry Month (in the US and Canada). According to the Wikipedia, she started doing this in 2003, and is something I started doing ten years ago in 2014.

The idea is to write a poem for each day in April, for a total of 30 poems. Maureen provides prompts and inspirational posts, which I mostly follow. I’ve been doing a lot more prose projects lately, so it will be nice to use my poetry muscles again. Now that I’m not attending a poetry workshop group I haven’t been doing much of it. I’m even attending a local poetry open mic on Wednesday, something I haven’t done since pre-pandy I’d say, which will be a good warm up to the challenge.

If I write anything that seems good, I’ll be sure to post it here. Is anyone else going to participate in NaPoWriMo? Even you don’t do all the prompts, I’m sure it will be fun.
